how do you make a gasifier without having an external heat source?
The external heat source comes in the form of a burning piece of paper or a torch. Once the coal are lit, the fuel (wood) provides the heat needed to break the rest of the wood down into burnable gases.
Ah ok then, thanks, what is the best fuel to use as i just made a small one (1L) and had a small wood/fire lighter fire going and this was insufficient…?

These capital-intensive, non-sustainable industries have usurped our economic resources and clear-cut huge tracts of the world’s forests, given us massive oil spills, wars, toxic waste, massive worldwide pollution, global warming and the destruction of entire ecosystems.
CapitanoGUC, gasification is the second stage of wood burning that releases flammable gases to be ignited by something like a combustible engine. Please if you dont want to try or suggest to others to try it then stfu and allow those of us that are doing, help those that want to learn.

Do you obtain charcoal, after gasify wood? Or remains only ash?

Ash. If you are getting charcoal, there is an incomplete burn.

actually you do end up with charcoal, if you get ash then that means that there is oxygen getting into your combustion chamber and your not producing wood gas
yea but you get Bio-char instead of regular charcoal so its good in either your grill or out on your vegetable patch

They did this in WW2 to power their autos when there was no gasoline. Cap n Trade may force people to do this sort of thing.
what happens if i stored this some how in a old fire extinguisher bottle and compress it could i make a blo torch?
When we concern ourselves with carbon emissions, we are looking at carbon being added to the atmosphere by means of fossil fuels harvested from within the crust of the planet. Burning wood only recycles carbon that would otherwise be found in nature and expelled into our atmosphere eventually anyway. It surprisingly does not add to our carbon footprint! I know thats surprising, but I heard a climatologist stating that the other day.
